    Homeschooling is a way of life for my family as we’ve been at it since 2004.
    In that time I’ve researched  and have found many ins and outs of it.
    Here I shared my experience and knowledge that I’ve found as well as many links to great resources, articles and support groups.

    As a parent, Homeschooling has been a time of learning.
    When we began in January 2004 with one child at compulsory schooling age (the year your child turns 6 in Western Australia) we had no idea what we were in for.
    It has been such an exciting time of life being with our children as they learn and grow,
    which in turn causes our family to learn and grow.

    I hope to share some of what I have read and help you to understand why more and more people are taking the plunge
    into helping their children and family to grow into the best they can be.

    WHAT IS HOMESCHOOLING?

    Home education, or homeschooling is just as it sounds.  The majority of the child’s learning occurs in the family home with the parent teaching.

    IS IT LEGAL?

    Since the introduction of compulsory education in Western Australia in 1871, homeschooling has been a legal option for parents.  You need to register with the Education Department of WA as a Home Educator.  You need to cover the subjects that the schools do but you do not have to be a qualified teacher to do this.

    WHY HOMESCHOOL?

    Many people, all over the country, homeschool for many reasons.

    Some of them include:

    -The work can be structured to suit individual strengths, weaknesses and interests.

    -Children can advance at their own pace in a supportive atmosphere.

    -Parents have more time with their children, which can create a closer knit family.

    -Children have more time to follow hobbies and sports.

    -Opportunity to interact with a variety of different aged people from varied backgrounds.

    -There is no homework, uniforms, packed lunches or travel to and from school!

    HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

    Educating your children at home can be as cheap or expensive as you want or your budget allows.  It is as individual as the children.  Some choose to use free resources from public libraries and the internet while others choose to enrol in a complete curriculum supplied by an academy.

    Find out as much as you can about what you want to do.  Research homeschooling online, get books out of the library, talk to people who homeschool.
